Movie Preview: "On Native Soil: A Documentary on the 9/11 Commission Report"

As volunteers last night at the National Constitution Center (NCC), we were able to see the preview of "On Native Soil: A Documentary on the 9/11 Commission Report" and listen to the discussion afterward. It is a powerful film, and we highly recommended it.

The documentary retells the events of 9/11 and the Commission hearing that followed. The documentary is narrated by Kevin Costner and Hilary Swank. It is directed by Emmy award winning news and film producer Linda Ellman. Following the film, Ellman participated in a discussion, along with Sally Regenhard, a mother of a fallen fire fighter, a victim of 9/11.

The documentary focuses on the personal stories of tragedy and triumph, the events leading up to 9/11, and the terrorist attacks themselves. Also, it explores the determined effort by a group of citizens to form the 9/11 Commission and illustrates the process by which the Commission published it report.

This program was held in conjunction with the NCC's next exhibit 9/11: A Nation Remembers, which will be on display from September 8, 2006, through January 1, 2007.

On Native Soil will make its world TV premiere on Court TV on August 21, 2006, and becomes available on DVD on August 22, 2006.

2006 Philadelphia Liberty Medal: Bush I and Clinton

Former Presidents George H. W. Bush and Bill Clinton will be awarded the 2006 Liberty Medal this fall for their joint efforts to raise money to help survivors of the Asian tsunami and Hurricane Katrina.

Bush and Clinton are schedule to accept the award on October 5, 2006, at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia. The Liberty Medal was created in 1988 as an outgrowth of the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the ratification of the Constitution.

Congratulations to them both.
