Iron Ladies of Liberia

This is a Gem -- Iron Ladies of Liberia

On Wednesday, February 20, 2008, Lynn and I saw a preview film
screening of Iron Ladies of Liberia, a great profile of Africa's first
freely elected female head of state, Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf at the
National Constitution Center, 525 Arch Street in Philadelphia.
The film follows President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf through her first
year in office as she faces angry mobs, ambitious political rivals
and high-ranking members of the international community.

There was a post-film discussion about the history of Liberia and
current policy aimed at preventing a descent into civil war.
The panel speakers included Dr. Teta Banks, General Consul
of Liberia, and Amie Sarnor, a 16-year-old sophomore at
Constitution High School in Philadelphia who came to America
in 2000 with her step-father to join the rest of her family,
who had been separated by the civil war in Liberia.

Iron Ladies of Liberia will air on WHYY TV 12
here in Philadelphia on Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at 10 PM
(Check your local listings at http://www.pbs.org/independentlens).

We highly recommend Iron Ladies of Liberia!
