2006 Revolutionary Germantown Festival

On Saturday, October 7, 2006, we were invited to this year's Battle of Germantown reenactment at the Cliveden, the summer house of the wealthy Loyalist Benjamin Chew. It gave us a look at what life was like in colonial Germantown. The Revolutionary Germantown Festival commemorates the October 4, 1777, battle in which the American Continental Army, under General George Washington, fought British and Hessian forces under Major General Sir William Howe. Washington's campaign to liberate the occupied capital city, Philadelphia, came to an end here. Washington's troop were forced to retreat to Valley Forge.

Later, we toured the grounds of RittenhouseTown, site of North America's first paper mill.

Mark your calendar for next year's festival. It was a blast.
