Sports: Breaking Records, Breaking Barriers -- National Constitution Center

On Thursday, May 25, we attended a pre-show reception for the new exhibit at the National Constitution Center: Sports -- Breaking Records, Breaking Barriers. It focuses on 35 athletes and their performances in 17 different sports. It includes issues as women's changing roles, racial and ethnic integration, the emergence of sports celebrities and superstars, nationalism, perception about human physical limitations and technological breakthroughs that enhanced performance and participation.

Also, there is a tribute to Philly heroes who have made a difference in the local sports community. It includes a variety of artifacts, images, and memorabilia from some of the people in Philly sports history.

I heartily recommend this exhibit. You will be rewarded by seeing, among other things, Abraham Lincoln's handball from the 1850s.
