The Civil War

The Civil War "The Cause (1861)"Thursday, August 2 at 9 p.m.

Part one of filmmaker Ken Burns' landmark series examines the causes of the Civil War and chronicles key events, including John Brown's rebellion at Harper's Ferry, the election of Abraham Lincoln in 1860, the firing on Fort Sumter and the jubilant rush to arms in the North and South. It ends with the disastrous Union defeat at the Battle of Manassas, when both sides learned that it would be a very long war. The series continues Thursdays at 9 p.m. in August.
