WHYY is throwing a party to celebrate 50 years of great television, and you're invited! Join us on Saturday, September 29 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the WHYY Technology Center for a free event featuring Q&A sessions and meet-and-greets with WHYY-TV personalities; WHYY Kids character appearances and family activities; cultural arts performances; tours of the WHYY studios; and much more.

Part one of filmmaker Ken Burns' landmark series examines the causes of the Civil War and chronicles key events, including John Brown's rebellion at Harper's Ferry, the election of Abraham Lincoln in 1860, the firing on Fort Sumter and the jubilant rush to arms in the North and South. It ends with the disastrous Union defeat at the Battle of Manassas, when both sides learned that it would be a very long war. The series continues Thursdays at 9 p.m. in August.
